Iran grew to hate Jimmy Carter who preached human rights but ignored the Shah’s treatment of his people. Carter did nothing but continue to give support to this nasty leader. The Shah left Iran in January 1979 for an “extended vacation” because he knew his people were going to kill him.

Jimmy Carters actions before and after showed me and America what an incompetent nincompoop he was. On November 9, four days after the Embassy takeover, Carter declared the U.S. would cease all shipments of spare parts for military equipment to Iran until the safe release of all hostages. He also cut off all oil imports from Iran. This not only further strained the U.S.’s relations with Iran, but it also damaged the American economy. Gas prices quickly spiked. In addition, he froze approximately ten billion dollars of Iranian money being held in American banks. Although there were negative effects on the U.S. economy from the oil embargo, Iran suffered much worse economic hardship from the combination of the embargo, economic sanctions, and frozen assets.
If that doesn’t work, an assassin’s bullet will be used.

Reagan didn’t have to secretly negotiate anything. Anyone replacing asshole Jimmy Carter would have made Iran happy and quite willing to negotiate and respond favorably.
Our Iran embassy staff couldn’t believe this shit was happening! Not only had they warned the Carter administration of the various dangers associated with such a decision but the consequences of the shah’s admission to the United States were so obvious that no one would be “dumb enough” to think of such an idea let alone to allow it to happen.
